Barcelona Zoo

Land of Dragons, also known as Komodo Space is a modern 140-metre route that has replicas of natural habitats of the creatures. The zone has five species from the APAC region and two integrated enclosures. While the Komodo dragon lives in the larger enclosure, the Muntjac deer lives in the other area. Java Sparrow, the Nicobar Pigeon, and the Pied Imperial Pigeon are the other creatures that dwell in the enclosures.

Witness and learn about reptiles and amphibians at the highly famous terrarium of the Barcelona Zoo. You can see species of all sizes from dwarf crocodiles to large caimans at the breeding room with your Barcelona Zoo tickets. There is a footbridge at the end of this zone connecting several ponds where you can spot a huge Siamese crocodile.

The aviary of Barcelona Zoo has over 70 species of birds and replicas of Asian, African and American jungles. It has contributed significantly to the increase in population of endangered species providing them a safe habitat. Crested partridge, White-naped pheasant pigeon, and Wattled jacana are some of the exotic birds you will see at the aviary with your Barcelona Zoo tickets.

Spend a fun-filled day playing with goats, sheep, cows and horses at the Farm zone of Barcelona Zoo. Also known as ‘Children’s zoo’, the Farm is designed to let kids enjoy interacting with animals. Your Zoo Barcelona tickets also include access to the critically endangered Catalan Donkey at the Farm.

Marmosets Gallery or Titi Monkey Gallery is the home to seven different species of South American marmosets. The zone has tiny homes with controlled temperature and humidity for the animals to live comfortably. If weather permits you can see the monkeys sunbathing outside in small islands covered in shrubs.

The Gorilla Spaces is a zone dedicated to the gorillas where visitors can observe the behaviour of the gorillas and understand how close they are to humans in their physical and mental intelligence. You will also learn about the famous white gorilla Snowflake that lived in this zone.

The Barcelona Zoo tickets provide access to the Primate Gallery where you can see primates living in replicas of their natural habitat. The zone has a walled enclosure so that visitors can get a close view of the daily life of the primates. Some of the primates found here are red monkeys, talapoin, Brazza Monkey and Siamang.

The Palmeral zone of Barcelona has 12 birdhouses where you can witness exotic bird species like white cockatoo, hyacinth macaw, blue macaw and golden parrot. The zone is designed like a garden with abundant vegetation and there are various vantage points from where you can do birdwatching.

At the Barcelona zoo you can gaze at several reptiles such as komodo dragons, snakes, crocodiles, iguana, african spurred tortoise and many more. Characterised by the way they crawl or drag themselves, reptiles are cold-blooded species. They originally lived in water and have adapted to life on land due to evolution. Indian rock python, Chinese alligator, green anaconda, siamese crocodile are amongst the huge collection of reptiles that might amaze you.

Some of the mammals found in Barcelona Zoo are Black Howler Monkey, African bush elephant, red panda, Sumatran tiger, meerkat and Iberian wolf. Mammals are warm-blooded vertebrates that are classified as herbivores, carnivores and omnivores depending on their feeding habits.

The abundant species on earth is birds as there are more than 9000 different varieties of birds. There are few exceptions in birds like ostrich, penguin and emu which cannot fly. You can spot birds from all over the world like Hyacinth macaw, Indian peafowl, American flamingo and hornbill at Barcelona Zoo.

There are only two types of amphibians you can spot with your Barcelona Zoo tickets, namely Mallorca midwife toad and Montseny brook newt. Amphibians, characterised by their bare body with hairlessness, are cold-blooded vertebrates. While some species of amphibians breathe through their skin, others use their lungs or gills for breathing.
